Speakers

Jona Piehl
After studying visual communication in Hamburg and Edinburgh, publishing a book about instruction manuals and working in Berlin, Jona moved to London, completed an MA at Central Saint Martins, and joined Land Design Studio in 2005. Since then she has been designing graphic systems for exhibitions and museums, most recently the British Music Experience in London that is dedicated to the history of British popular music.

Andy Polaine
In 1994, Andy Polaine co-founded the award-winning new-media collective Antirom in London and worked with clients such as the BBC, The Science Museum and Levis Strauss and Co. (for which they won a D&AD Silver Pencil) as well exhibiting several interactive installations and performances around the world.

Andy was also a producer at dotcom giant Razorfish in the UK before moving to Australia where he started the interactive department of visual effects company, Animal Logic. He was a Senior Lecturer in Interactive Media at the College of Fine Arts, The University of New South Wales, Sydney, and Head of the School of Media Arts.

Now living in Germany, Andy has been a Guest Professor at the Bauhaus University and continues to work as a lecturer (both online and face-to-face), interaction designer and writer and is completing a PhD examining interactivity and play. Andy is the founder and Editor of The Designer’s Review of Books: http://www.designersreviewofbooks.com and has published over 160 articles and papers. A regular speaker at a range of conferences and institutions he was recently a jury member for the Art Directors Club Interactive Awards in New York.

Mark Hauenstein
Mark Hauenstein currently heads the research and development department of London based interactive design company AllofUs where he has worked for clients such as the NHS, the National History Museum and Microsoft. One of his recent projects for AllofUs / Microsoft won the 2009 Design Week award in the category digital design.

Prior to his time at AllofUs Hauenstein worked as a freelancer for various companies like digit and Snibbe Interactive.

Next to his commercial work Hauenstein continues to develop his personal interactive design work which he has exhibited internationally. This includes the Japan Media Arts Festival in Tokyo, the ICANN / Centre Pompidou in Paris and the NEXT festival in Copenhagen. His work has also been featured in magazines and books like IdN (Hong Kong), Axis (Japan), PAGE (Germany) and Digital By Design (UK).

Hauenstein holds a BA in Fine Art from Middlesex University and an MA in Interaction Design from the Royal College of Art.
